Chopin Marathon is the annual celebration of Frederic Chopin's birthday in a form of a series of joint recitals where each performer gets to play one piece of his choosing. Organized by the Vancouver Chopin Society, this is an excellent opportunity for young pianists to play the music of this ubiquitously beloved composer for a welcoming audience.
Jimmy's performance of the Nocturne in B-flat minor in one of the recitals this year was a real treat. He displayed great technical facility along with expressive sensitiveness and musicality far greater than what can be expected from a pianist his age. But most remarkably, there were moments of real magic in the air, which are rare to be heard even in mature pianists' playing.
Bravo!
